KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 — Mohamad Azli Bidin initially posted a video of his old fridge on TikTok simply for the sake of sharing. However, to his surprise, someone actually expressed interest and was willing to buy it for RM20,000.

According to Harian Metro (HM), after some consideration, Mohamad Azli, 43, decided to part with his cherished refrigerator, which had been in his life for over four decades.

His TikTok post about the fridge garnered over 1.5 million views, receiving mixed reactions from netizens.

Mohamad Azli, who is also a herbal medicine maker, gardener, and entrepreneur, explained that the vintage ‘Singer’ model refrigerator is still in working condition.

He told HM that it holds deep sentimental value for him, as he grew up with it and it has been a part of his family for generations. He also added that the fridge is 42 years old and his late father bought it for around RM300.

“It’s not just an old item, but a witness to my struggles and a symbol of my efforts to overcome hardships.

“You could say it’s one of my most treasured possessions. I initially shared the video of the fridge with a RM20,000 price tag just as nostalgic content, never expecting anyone to seriously want to buy it,” he told HM when contacted.

According to Mohamad Azli, less than a day after posting the video, it gained significant attention and went viral on TikTok.

”Many people sent me direct messages, and three individuals expressed interest in purchasing the fridge.

“I sold it to a man from Melaka, an antique collector, as he was the first to message me.

“He accepted the price without any negotiation and even picked up the fridge on the same day. I decided to let it go, not out of financial need, but with the hope that it will bring value to its new owner.”

Mohamad Azli stated that part of the proceeds from the sale would be used to assist those in need.

Regarding the reactions from netizens, he said he welcomed all feedback, both positive and negative.

“I read the comments as well. Some were positive because they understood the value of old items.

“However, there were also criticisms, with some calling me ‘crazy’ for wanting to sell an old, worn-out fridge at such an unreasonable price.

“I’m perfectly fine with it because I understand that everyone has different opinions. Old items certainly have their own appeal, and the fact that the fridge was sold proves that,” he said.
